MetTrace is the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) operation to help residents make their homes more secure by providing crime prevention advice and free SmartWater forensic property marking kits to 1 in 7 London homes. Inside the kit is SmartWater solution and window stickers, which are proven to deter burglars and make your home more secure. |
• SmartWater can be used to mark jewellery, mobile phones,
bikes, power tools and many other items. It is only visible under UV lighting. • It uses a unique forensic code so that police can easily identify stolen property, and return them to their rightful owners. • We routinely scan prisoners and property for SmartWater. It has a 100% conviction rate in court. • As well as visiting 440,000 homes over three years, MetTrace will see police carry out additional operations to target thieves and cut burglary in London. |
Dear Residents
The Metropolitan Police Service, in partnership with Smart water, started the Met Trace initiative earlier this year. As part of scheme 1 in 7 properties throughout London were identified to receive a Smart water kit over the next three years. At present, Barnet borough are currently working towards covering 15,000 properties that were identified. These addresses have been provided by Smart water for this years rollout, and unfortunately not all addresses are covered by the police in the current initiative.
If you have received a Smart Water card through your door this means that you are to receive a free kit. Please follow the instructions on the card to arrange an appointment at a time that suits you.
Unfortunately if you have not received a card through your door you will not be eligible to receive smart water from the Met police at this time. Should you wish to receive Smart water by other means, you can contact the Smart water team on 08000 521 669 or visit their website www.smartwater.com. Your local neighbourhood watch team or insurance company may also offer Smart water at a discounted price.

Property marking is only one of the ways you can make your home more secure. Use Imobilise to register property on the National Property Register. This can be very useful for insurance purposes, and help police identify whether your property has been lost or stolen
